The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix embraces both the humor and the thrill found in many horror movies. The novel is set in an affluent Charleston neighborhood and centers around a book club obsessed with reading macabre books. However, when a vampire moves into the neighborhood their reading fixation becomes their tool for survival.
I had the pleasure of hearing Hendrix speak at the Junior League of Richmond’s Book and Author Event. There he explained that his literary book club was inspired by his mother and her friends who he took for granted as a child. As an adult, he grew to see them differently when he realized all of the difficulties they had silently faced with strength and grace. The tone beautifully captures the loving teasing of a son toward his mother. This book is especially perfect for Southern moms in book clubs.
Grace served classic southern party food at her party–ham biscuits, pimento cheese, and cheese straws. This seems like the perfect excuse to enjoy their cheddary goodness. This 16 oz tin is from the Mississippi Gift Company.
These South Carolina themed wine-charms are perfect for a book club hostess. What more can I say?
